About this event

Family & Education • Children & Youth

Join us for an exciting 5-day Holiday Camp where children dive into a world of creativity and innovation! Designed to spark curiosity, this hands-on camp invites kids to explore a variety of make-and-build projects; encouraging experimentation, enhancing dexterity, and strengthening both creative and critical thinking skills. Each day brings a new opportunity to learn, create, and have fun through purposeful play and exploration.

On Day 1, students will explore model making and be creative in building up a TreeHouse design. With a real tree branch as their site context, they'll explore form, features, levels, platforms, and openings, thinking creatively about how their treehouse will look and function. They will learn how to provide proper support and access, bringing their imaginative designs to life through thoughtful construction.

From 2D sketch to 3D prototype of their unique TreeHouse creations

On Day 2, students get to design their own Ice Cream Truck before brainstorming on the branding of their Ice Cream Company! They will explore the spatial and functional needs of a mobile ice cream business; balancing production space with sales flow, before bringing their ideas to life through 3D prototyping.

On Day 3, students will learn how Graphic Designers create visual content to communicate messages by applying visual hierarchy and page layout techniques, also understanding typography to design their own ice cream brand logo, menu and a poster to advertise for the grand opening of their Ice Cream Truck.k

We promise it will be two full days of fun learning; developing your creative eye and aesthetic sensibility in both digital 2D crafting and physical 3D prototyping.

Laptops will be provided to students on this day of the camp to design digitally in Canva. However, we do encourage students to bring their own device, laptop or iPad to continue working on their project at home.

Do email hello@designtinkers.sg to let us know if you will be bringing your own device, a week before the holiday camp starts.

The "Design an Animal Sanctuary" program, held on Day 4 and 5, invites young, creative minds to become thoughtful designers. Students will learn how intentional design can support animal welfare and create harmony between wildlife and urban environments. By focusing on a specific animal, from a core list of penguins, monkeys, elephants, or otters, or a self-chosen species, they will research its specific needs and apply that knowledge to design a safe and dignified sanctuary.

Over the course of the camp, students will first brainstorm and sketch a preliminary design before beginning to build a three-dimensional prototype using various materials. The second day is dedicated to refining their creations and preparing for a final presentation. This project-based experience goes beyond simple design, encouraging students to consider the importance of conservation, coexistence, and how sanctuaries, unlike traditional zoos, prioritize an animal's well-being and natural behaviours.
