At the workshop, guest will (1) learn more about the history of Singapore's Peranakan heritage houses, (2) learn sketching and watercolor painting a Peranakan heritage house, (3) enjoy yummy Peranakan Kuehs (cakes) and tea, (4) ladies can get dressed in lovely Kebayas to take lovely photos, and (5) be soaked in nostalgic ambience of a Peranakan heritage home at the Straits Enclave.

Led by art lover Kathleen, she loves exploring art techniques and conducts various art workshops such as resin art, alcohol ink art, etc. She has deep passion for outdoor urban sketching, as she would regularly whip out her sketch book to do sketches on the streets to capture interesting landscape and social activities that catches her eye. Kathleen will share and demonstrate the fundamentals of sketching and watercolour painting techniques, and break down in phases on how one can create your own unique piece of Peranakan heritage house art work.

Workshop Programme:

1.00-1.45PM: Learn the History of Singapore's Peranakan Heritage Houses

1.45-2.30PM: 2-min walk to View Peranakan houses & Phototaking

2.30-5.00PM: Guided Sketching & Painting

Kathleen will guide you along the way during the 4-hour workshop. Guests can stay on after the workshop to perfect their masterpiece or just gossip over tea with new friends. Afterall, (one of) Straits Enclave’s main purpose is to enrich lives, knowledge, memories and for guest to make new friends.

All art materials (paper, watercolours, pen, pencil, eraser, brushes, etc) are provided at the workshop, so just come as you are. At the end of the workshop, each participant will get to bring home your art piece that you have created.

Awesome & Unique Experience @ Straits Enclave. Be immersed in a heritage house by spending the afternoon at the Straits Enclave situated @ Joo Chiat heritage district. Once you step into Straits Enclave, it is like taking a step back in time into a different time dimension – 100 years back into a 1920s Peranakan home when these architecturally stunning shophouses were constructed. Guests are welcomed by a captivating ambience, followed by a feast for their eyes where they will be tickled with stories behind them. The place provides fascinating insights into the development of this unique culture and heritage that infuses Colonial, Chinese and Malay influences into their living spaces, furniture, deco, art, tapestry, kitchen wares, dressing, and more.

Experiential Private Dining. Visitors craving more for a complete experience can pre-book a private dining session at Straits Enclave. Preserving the authenticity of each dish is key to how Straits Enclave’s Chef teleports guests to the time when he/Chef fondly remembers these dishes growing up. Our in-house chef will take you on a gastronomical journey with authentic Peranakan or Western cuisines, special desserts and beverages from past generations’ secret recipes. Arrive early to indulge in pre-diner cocktail Nyonya style, and for a photo tour around the fascinating and charming/captivating Straits Enclave. Guests are given the chance to create their plate of Kueh Pie Tee and bowl of Laksa. Straits Enclave presents/promises an engaging, enriching and hearty experience. The Straits Enclave can host up to 16 comfortably seated guests.
