Event description
Visit little-known places of worship, observe their rituals and cultural practices and partake in their traditional meals!

About this Event

Every F1 season, we see 10 religious leaders standing along the F1 track to bless the road. People can typically identify these religious leaders - such as the Christian bishop and Catholic ‘Father’, or the Buddhist monk. But there are religions and faiths in Singapore that are less-heard of, though they are celebrated by some of our local communities. We will be visiting their sacred sites and places of worship.

About Sri Ruthra Kaliamman Temple

The temple is a hive of activity throughout the year. It plays host to a flag raising ceremony every April, the Navratri or nine days festival in September and October, as well as the Yagam or sacrificial fire festival in November.

Veerappan Alagappan, the president of the Sri Ruthra Kaliamman Temple, said he enjoys contributing to the temple. His favourite memory includes organising and coordinating the temple’s consecration ceremony in 2015 which attracted about 5,000 devotees.

A key principle of Hinduism, he said, is to have a heart which is accepting of all religions. He added: “One of the main teachings of Hinduism is to be all embracing and not hate anybody. This is one of the basic principles of our faith. Love your religion, love your people, love your country.”
